Leaving a Legacy

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 | Category: Health

This weekend, I unfortunately had to attend a funeral.  It seems like whenever I go to a funeral I think about what people will say about me when I'm gone.

My life's goal is to make a positive difference in the health of thousands of people before (and even after) I'm gone.

Everything I do is geared to making my life, my family's life, and even your life better and healthier.  Maybe I'm being a little melodramatic, but I hope you get my point.

It makes me think about what we do, like:

The community events we have like the Total Health Fitness Challenge and the Children's Health and Wellness Expo are desinged for you and you don't even have to be a patient to benefit from those.

The exercise and nutrition classes we have every month in our office.

This website with all the health and fitness content that we have on it.

The hundreds of patients we see every week.  Talking to them about physical balance, exercise, nutrition, healthy thinking...and how those affect their health.

It seems like I always want to do more though...that I'm not doing enough to help you get healthy.

So that's why another project I'm working on is a book.  Right now the tentative title is "Get Healthy Now!"  And just like the title states, it shows you how to get healthy.

So I'm interested to know what you want people to think and say about you when you're gone..or even before you're gone.

So please leave a comment below.

Until next time...

I would like people to say when I am gone that I was a person of integrity and that I made a difference in a lot of peoples' lives.

Like you, my goal is to help as many people as I can to have the best lives they can. I was a Sunday school teacher for all different ages for 30 years, and led small groups - Bible study groups, kids' groups, and many Christian diet groups that stressed the whole person - spiritual, nutrition, exercise, emotional wellness, etc.

Currently I am a mentor for two college women and some other young mothers and I think I learn more than they do! I hope to do this for many years to come. I love watching people reach their potential as they work through problems and situations themselves and become strong parents, friends, employees.

For my legacy, I want people to remember me for my strength to overcome some very difficult life situations with strength of character and a strong faith in God; and that even in the worst of times, that I helped them to deal with similar situations in their personal lives, and that I helped others to learn how to deal with situations in their professional lives. I am referring to mental illness which touched my family.

I want people to remember me for the beauty I brought to their lives through music. I am a church organist and choir director.

I want people to remember me as a fun loving person ready to enjoy life and all it has to offer. I want people to remember me as a good listener, a compassionate friend, a trusted colleague.
